Dinnertime with Xander

Always an adventure...dinner with Xander. He doesn't want to sit here, he wants to sit there! He doesn't want this bowl, he wants that one. He likes the plate divided into 3 sections, not the one with 4 sections! He wants ketchup NEXT to his hot dog, not in separate part of the plate! He doesn't want Asher too close....then he wants Asher right next to him! Every day, it's the same drama... "I don't like chicken... I LOVE CHICKEN!" ... or "I DON'T LIKE CHEESY EGGS.... Mommy, can I have cheesy eggs today?" It can really drive a mommy MAD! (in the crazy sense AND in the angry sense!!)

Tonight was no exception to our dramatic dinnertime! We had my mom and brother over for dinner, and Xander wanted to sit next to YaYa. Now, he always sits next to Tim, so we put him BETWEEN my mom and Tim. About 5 minutes into dinner, as we've all begun eating, he decides he wants to sit on the other side of YaYa. We say NO. He whines... we still say NO. I give 2 choices: Eat your food right there in your seat, or go to your room until we're done eating & you can sit anywhere you want because you'll eat by yourself. Seems like an easy choice, right?? WRONG... he sits there crying and whining that he doesn't want to sit there; he wants to trade spots with Asher..... so here is my personal inner battle: Give in just to save the peace (since we have company) or don't give in because I am MOMMY and he is CHILD... he needs to listen. SO, as Tim stands up to take him to his room because he's still not eating, he takes the ENTIRE hot dog... still in one piece... and puts it in his mouth (sure wish I had a camera readily available)!! You should've seen it.... it was SO HARD for my mom, brother, Tim, and I to keep a straight face! Tim made him take it out of his mouth ... so as to avoid choking... then took him to his room! About 10 minutes later, after MUCH screaming & tantrum throwing, he came out & to the table. He was happy & content- you never would've known he was just in trouble!

WOW... I SURE DO LOVE 4 YEAR OLDS!!

  1. Good job for sticking to your grounds, some things are all right to give in to, other things you have to stand your ground, good choice, hopefully it won't take too many more and he will figure out how it works :).
