At breakfast, Xander and Asher were eating their cereal when Xander says, "Asher, do you want to be my best friend?" Asher: "I want best friend too!" Xander: "Well, if you're my best friend, then you can play with me at the McDonalds place today." Asher: "I want play too!" So, I guess they're best friends now....
I wonder though... at what point in life do we "grow up" and realize that "Best", by definition, means "surpassing all others; MOST suitable or desirable; greatest," and therefore can really only be ONE best friend? I remember when I was about 8 years old, my ONE best friend moved from Florida to Texas. A few months later, I got to go visit her. She was wearing a necklace that said "Best Friend" that someone in TX gave to her. I WAS DEVASTATED!! I couldn't believe I had been "replaced" by another best friend.
Don't worry, the story ends well.... She and I are still very close! I've never stopped saying she's my "Life-Long Best Friend" as we HAVE been friends since we were toddlers. Now I am curious, when is it that we "un-grow up" and realize that it's OK to have more than one... there is no LAW forbidding multiple bests...is there? In fact, I have my "Life Long, All-Time Best Friend" (Shannon); "My Colorado Best Friend" (Stephanie); "My College Best Friend" (Laurisa); and a couple "Okie Besties" (Amanda and Melanie).... All right, I know I am babbling, and sometimes I OVER-think things!
I thank GOD for the great people in my life. The people I have met that enrich my life-not only my "BEST FRIENDS,"- ALL the people I fill my life with. My TMOM friends, my Rhema friends, my Wally World friends and my Metris friends... I am who I am because of my friends! You all encourage me and lift me up, PLUS you allow me the opportunity to do the same for you!
Without friends, best and otherwise, where would we be??
