Messy day

Today was a big day for me... er.. for the kids! They got to finger paint today!!! Seriously a big deal... I think I can count on one hand how many times I've let them paint. I have always felt a little guilty for taking away their fun, but I can't stand "those types" of messes. We rarely play with washable markers either... YES, I do realize they're washable, but I just don't like that kind of a mess. In fact, I've had a box of kids finger paint in my cabinet (hidden from the kids) for 3 or 4 years... tells you how often it gets used, right? Tim brought home some more finger paint a couple of days ago, and ever since, Asher has been BEGGING for some paint time!

UGH...

So, today, I gave in! I was feeling bad for saying "not right now" over and over and over again. So... I stripped them all of their shirts. Put twins in their high chairs (CONTROL FREAK = ME), and I put Asher at the kitchen table. He got a palette of colors on a plate... the twins got 3 primary colors in the paint bottles. We have a floor color book (huge coloring pages)... I let them each pick one page and they got to paint!

WOW... it was such a mess! But they had fun...and I guess that's the most important part, right? They were SO VERY EXCITED! As soon as Tim got home, all three had to show daddy their finger paint pictures! They were so proud. AND... in spite of having to let go of my own personal Obsessive/Compulsive-ness ... I LOVED seeing them so happy! Not sure I'm ready to give in and do this OFTEN, but I'm glad they had fun!

Love these kiddos!

pic index top to bottom: Asher's masterpiece, Bella's picture (she refused to smile or say cheese, instead she showed her "princess" attitude), Bella's hand print, Jonathan's finger is blue- he said that was a "booger for Boo's Coos" (Blue's Clues), Twins' messy hands, and Bella's hand print

  1. that's funny! I'm kinda the same, but then again, my girls were kinda neat freaks, so they didn't enjoy finger paints. My son though... different story! I make them paint outside and hose off after.
