Being a mom (Two things Tuesday)

Sometimes being a mommy is heartbreaking.

Two examples...for Two Things Tuesday

#1-
On Saturday, Xander had a 9 am soccer game... and it was FREAKING cold outside. My mom came over to watch the other kids so I wouldn't have to take them all in the cold to the game. Asher DESPERATELY wanted to go to the game. I, of course, explained that it was too cold ... that if he went to the game, he'd spend the entire time crying about being cold, so NO he would not be going to the soccer game. He spent what seemed like FOREVER crying, screaming, and pitching a fit.

Every part of my heart screamed,
"just let him go!"

While LOGIC said,
"if I let him go, he'll know that screaming is the right way to get what he wants."

SO... needless to say, I didn't let him go...
my heart was breaking, but I knew it was the right thing to do!

#2-
Xander was in trouble at school on Friday... evidently he stole something from a friend of his in class. We discussed all about not taking things that don't belong to us... about how "good friends" respect what belongs to other people... about how even in the Bible, God tells people "do not steal"...

you know...the DON'T STEAL talk.

Then, after this BIG, long discussion on Friday, he went back to school yesterday and stole from the classroom supplies. The teacher explained to me what happened saying, "it's not a big deal WHAT he stole...it was just some beads... but it's the fact that we just went through all of this on Friday." So she encouraged me to "reiterate to him that stealing is wrong."

Well, DUH... as though I teach my kids that stealing is OK??

So, again we had this talk.... it broke my heart when Xander looked up at me after getting onto him and said,

"You're a mean mommy."

I then had to explain,
"I'm not trying to be mean, I am simply trying to teach you that if you make bad decisions, there will be bad consequences. You have to make good decisions in life so you can be the best boy and the best friend that you can be" ...
meanwhile, as he is crying, so is mommy!

I made him write a letter to his teacher.... Here it is:
Geez... being a mommy is tough!

  1. Don't you love that? Yes, I taught him at home to fill his pockets with stolen goods and bring me the loot. Duh .
