Potty training woes... HELP!

it's for the birds! How is it that I don't remember potty training for Xander and Asher being as difficult as it is with Bella and Jonathan. A friend of mine said something today that got me thinking... she said,

"Are they ready? Nevermind their age or other kids their same age... are THEY ready?"

Well... maybe they just aren't. I don't know. It seems like by age 3, they'd be ready. I mean, come one, I was potty trained before my SECOND birthday. The big boys were done by three...or right around their third birthday. But with the twins, it's so frustrating. They tell me when they're stinky... but they don't wake up dry. They don't like to be in wet diapers, but when put on the toilet, they have NO interest at all in going potty. Jonathan said yesterday, "I guess there's no water in my penis, mommy!" LOL... made me laugh! But I don't know HOW to get them to go ... is there magic? I have offered candy...doesn't work. Someone recommended pouring warm water on their down-there parts... didn't work. They could care less about stickers. Yesterday, they were in panty/underwear. In 2 1/2 hours, I took them to the toilet every 15 minutes... EVERY 15 MINUTES! Yet, in the in-between time, they wet through 2 pair of undies each, PLUS Bella poo'd in one pair! UGH... maybe they're not ready??

So, many of my friends have been there/done that ... I welcome any suggestions!

  1. Have you thought about getting potty chairs that they can sit on rather than the toilet? Didn't you say that someone had potty chairs you would be able to borrow. You might try that.
Does Jonathan go in when Xander and/or Asher go to pee? He might get the hang of it if he were to go in and go with his brothers. Just a thought. :)
Unfortunately it will probably take more than a day or two of constant taking to the BR. Doing it one day and not the next doesn't work. T*A*I*S~

  2. I haven't tackled twins~ yet. But, I had a terrible time getting Olivia potty trained. She still sleeps in a pull up :( I tried lots of techniques (games, books, etc) and lots of bribery. I finally bought an Elmo DVD about going to the potty. I sat her little potty chair in the living (completely grossed me out to do this!) and let her watch the DVD and had her go every 15 minutes. I don't know what happened but something clicked and she started using the potty. We kept the potty chair in the living room for almost a week and moved it to the bathroom. You are welcome to use the DVD if you would like. I know I have it around here somewhere!! I have a couple of books to about going potty if you would like those as well.
