In November of last year, I posted about a special bond the my twins have...even though they aren't identical. (click here to read) So often, we hear of identical twins having a special bond- you know, how they feel each other's pain... or how they know if the other is in trouble. Well, against "scientific research," I FIRMLY believe that they don't have to share exact DNA to have the twin bond.
Talking to a girlfriend with IDENTICAL twin girls, this is what she shared
"I might have gotten the exception to the rule - my girls seems like
normal siblings to me, they don't have a secret lanugage, they don't
feel each other's pain, they don't finish each others' sentences.... (If one was sick) My girls would say, "MOmmy, can she sleep in the guest room so I do'nt
get sick too?" When they were babies and in the same crib, they did
cute stuff like sleep the same and they used to yawn at the exact same
time always, sneeze, poop, laugh... at the exact same time. That was
fun! But that is almost where it ended... They are pretty
similar in personality though - not opposites like one shy and one out
going. They are both pretty much the same there... In
some ways, I feel like I got gipped"
And yet...
This weekend, when Jonathan was SO VERY SICK- puking like crazy- Bella sat in her bed and cried uncontrollably. I could not calm her down. She sat on her bed crying that she needed to throw up because Jonathan was. Not because she was sick, herself, but because brother was, she felt HIS pain and needed it too! THANK GOD, she wasn't sick!
At bedtime a couple nights ago, I checked on them to make sure they were sleeping. I found them both sleeping sideways across their toddler beds. Their right arms were across their chests and their left arms were up over their heads! It makes me chuckle a little bit when I see these moments. Where, even in their sleep, they're so similar.
Granted, their personalities are different- Jonathan more out-going and "strong willed" than Bella; their appearance is different- curly blonde vs straight brunette; but they have SO many similarities as well!
So, for all of my twin-mommy friends- what's your experience with this "bond of twin-hood" ??
Great picture!!!
ReplyDeleteMy husband is a twin. Although they don't look identical they certainly have similar characteristics. That is so sweet about Bella :)
