My LOST love for... Knick Knacks

Every day this Valentine's week, the Oklahoma Women Bloggers group is issuing a "Challenge" post!

Today's post:

My Love for Knick Knacks!

--------------------------------------------------

BUT... I am not much of a "knick knack-y" kind of girl anymore. I have gone through phases, but in the last few years, I have grown less interested.

See, for many years, I was OBSESSED with mini-snowglobes! I think snowglobes are pretty and awesome AND Pretty Awesome!!  BUT, I didn't like how much space the "normal" ones took up. SO, I started my search for minis! If you haven't seen them before, the globe part averages between 3-4 inches... so not too big!! I think I probably had over 30 of them, but when I had kids, they kept messing with them. So I left out a couple of my favorites on a display shelf, and I put the others away! Here are two of my FAVORITES:

After putting away the snowglobes, I found a new knick knack love... Willow Tree! The statues are so classy and elegant looking.... AND the kids left them alone. I think I have 10 of them, below are my favorites. The two on the right are obvious- Mom and baby ... Dad and baby. But the one on the left is called "Generations." I love it because my mom got it for me... it represents me as a little girl sitting at the feet of my standing mom and my grandma sitting with a quilt! I LOVE IT! I lost my mom's mom 3 1/2 years ago, but the three of us were always very close! So, it's almost like this knick knack was made just for us!!

BUT NOW... all of my knick knacks are out of the kids' reach up on shelves and mostly forgotten. Up on the shelf, they become part of the wall. I don't see them as the awesome things they once were! Now, I see my 1100 sq ft house with 4 kids, 2 dogs, & 2 adults and think, "Where would I put any knick knacks in this FULL house?" So, when my hubby wants to know what I want for holidays, I no longer say "Snowglobes" or "Willow Tree" ... they just cause more clutter than we already have...and my display shelves are full.

It is kinda sad though- I really did love them!!
But now, not so much!

  1. I love Willow Tree. I only have 2, one we got when we got married. The second was a gift after we had Baby Girl. But I understand about putting things high, most of my knick knacks are hidden in our wet bar/storage cabinet.

  2. I really didn't think I collected nicknacks. Then I saw your Willow Tree pic. Yep. I definitely have a few of those!
