Sanity advice

I recently asked another mom of twins how she keeps from going crazy... her reply was so great that I thought I would put it here... It's not just great for a mom of multiples to hear- I think anyone with kids can benefit from these "words of wisdom" from Dana :

"I think we have to be a little crazy to deal with everything. The only "wisdom" I can offer is take one day at a time. The difference between a good day and a bad day can be your attitude. I have to remind myself daily not to have any expectations....hard to do because I'm somewhat of a control freak...I have to except that the twins are babies...babies cry and aren't always happy....not to mention, twins are just a lot of work! I have to except the fact that my older boys are going to fight and mess up the entire house that I just cleaned yesterday. I'm not saying expect the worse, but remind yourself "it is what it is." Try not to get emotional when things go "wrong". "

So, Jonathan and Isabella have slept at least 5 hours at a time during the night every night this week! It's been great! I feel so much better these days than I have since they were born! It's wonderful being able to sleep for more than 2 hours at a time! I look forward to the days when they go 8 or more hours... it'll be like heaven!!
Xander was crazy last night. He wanted a popsicle really bad. He asked repeatedly- with me answering him with "please wait until I am done cooking." So, then he'd ask again a couple of minutes later. Finally, I told him that if he asked one more time, I wouldn't give him one at all. Of course, being 3 years old, he just had to ask again! So... I told him he wasn't going to have one!! He ran to his room pouting. We joked about the silliness of 3 year olds... then he came back. He said, "I am not going to ask again, but I NEED a popsicle!" Like, he wasn't asking, he was clarifying his needs for me!! It was impossible to not laugh! He repeatedly voiced his need for a popsicle, but I stuck to my guns and didn't give in!!! I really wanted to though!

You know you're a mom if...

...if kids songs are the ones stuck in your head (from Renee)

...if you can hug and kiss a child whose breath smells worse than a dragon's after he/she has been throwing up for most of the day and night. And, not throw up yourself in the process (from Marla)
...if the school principal calls you because your child brought your bra to their kindergarten class for show and tell (from Jennifer)
...if your extended relatives know which parts of your body have hair and which ones dont because it was your childs topic of choice at a Christmas (from Jennifer)

...if your living room looks more like a play area for kids than a nice place to entertain guests (mine)
...if you have a funny story (funny now, but not at the time)...how your son passing gas during a diaper change managed to shoot a poo ball on your cheek! (from Sandi)

...if your printer mysteriously quits working a week after you buy it. You send it in for under warranty repairs and Lexmark sends it back with a note that has a Barbie shoe taped to it and all it says is we found the problem (from Amanda)

...if you keep a box of baby wipes in the car...just in case
...if you pull something out of your purse and a baby sock falls out
...if your dishwasher has no real cups...all sippy cups & bottles
