Tim and I took Asher to the pediatrician's office this afternoon for a little bit of guidance and clarification of what to do with this amazing kid of ours!
The doctor started off by doing a survey for Autism to see if he was anywhere on the autistic spectrum. He passed that test and isn't even placing on the spectrum at all (YAY)!! So after a long talk with the doctor- WITHOUT Asher- he came up with this:

Asher has a big case of extreme shyness and selective mutism along with some social anxiety going on!
So I asked him how do you make a child with these issues understand the importance of social interaction and the importance of doing what is expected of him in school??!!
He said that for kids like Asher, he needs the "tools" to enable him to communicate....to know HOW to communicate.... in order make school successful for him! He recommended finding a child therapist or psychologist who specializes in shyness/mutism disorders.
SO... where do I begin?? How exactly do I find that? I'm open to suggestions from anyone in the Tulsa are who's been there/done that and can help point me in the "right" direction!!
He is a very smart kid... he sometimes even corrects Xander on his homework- which cracks me up. BUT, if the teachers never see his "genius" he'll never progress in school. I really want him to get what he needs to move on! He is so bright and full of fun and happiness and love... I want the rest of the world to see how awesome a kid he is!!
Praying for guidance on where to take him for the best possible help! Praying for patience (yes, I know you should NEVER pray for that... LOL) to get through this journey in one piece! And I am DEFINITELY open to any suggestions you may have to offer!
