My dentist has been telling me for years that she thinks a lot of my migraine issues are because I grind my teeth. She has suggested getting a night-guard to help me out! I said once that I've had migraines since elementary school... she asked how long I've grinded my teeth... well, since I had teeth!! So... perhaps it's related??
I've read different statistics on the FDA research... approximately 80% of migraine sufferers who get a night-guard to stop grinding have reported approximately a 75% decrease in their migraines! WOW... that's huge!

My dentist explained that research is showing how a lot of migraine triggers could actually result in grinding. For example... you may think you have hormonal migraines because you get a migraine the week of your period (that's me!!), but in reality, it's POSSIBLE that the stress of your monthly cycle could be causing you to grind your teeth at night. SO, it's POSSIBLE that the migraine you get at that time of the month COULD be because of your stress grinding more than because of hormonal fluctuations! OR... if you have some kind of dairy intolerance, you may get a migraine with certain foods... BUT perhaps, that intolerance is causing you to clench down on your teeth and, in turn, causes a migraine.
It's fascinating to think about... that perhaps a lot of my normal triggers are actually not DIRECTLY causing the migraine... they are causing the clenching & grinding. They've even discovered that a lot of earache pain is associated with your teeth too! That a lot of ENTs are referring people to their dentist when nothing is wrong with their ears, yet they're complaining of pain. Evidently, over working your jaw muscles by clenching can cause pain- seemingly in your ears!
There are so many factors linked to your teeth- you have no idea! SO, after years of my favorite dentist trying to convince me to get a night-guard, I did it!
