Day Four
Today talked about the television commercial for a weight loss company that showed a little orange monster chasing a woman with the foods that were NOT on her weight loss plan.
I was TOTALLY chased down today by an orange monster named PIZZA! I am a sucker for pizza! I did better than normal though- so for that, I can pat myself on the back. I ate about half of what I normally do, but it was still more than I SHOULD have!
Darn orange monster!!
The scriptures today reference when Jesus was tempted of the devil during His time of fasting and prayer. He didn't succumb to the devil's temptations because He was immersed in the Father's Word. "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every WORD that proceeds from the mouth of God." (Matthew 4) He didn't need food to survive- He needed the Word to sustain Him.
Once again, God made us to crave. Not to crave food, but to crave HIM. To crave a relationship with Him. To hunger and thirst AFTER RIGHTEOUSNESS! Matthew 5:6 says, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled!"
I want my hunger and thirst to be for him- not for pizza!! I want to crave HIM more than anything else on this planet! What I am craving is directly related to what I am consuming. In the physical, when I'm eating junk, I can't seem to get enough junk food. I go from Cheetos to pizza to pie to ice cream- or whatever else I can find. It's funny though that when I'm chowing down on an apple, I don't think, "Wow, I would really love some chips!" The same is true in my spiritual walk. The more scripture I read, the more I want to read! I find one scripture that reminds me of another that reminds me of another, and next thing you know, so much time has passed that I lose myself in the Word. I WANT THIS MORE OFTEN! Sad to admit, it doesn't happen often enough!
Thus, the point of this Bible study. I am made to crave. GOD made me to Crave and desire HIM. He wants me to crave Him and He promises that I will be filled! Fill me up, God!
