Let your "Yes" be "Yes!"

I am a member of a "for sale" group on Facebook. Well, actually I'm on several. Rarely do I buy anything, but sometimes I DO get to sell some of my "treasures!" YAY :)    The kids know that when we go to a local retail store, we're only going to meet someone for a sale! HA!! MOST of the time, I arrive before the person I'm meeting. So, a couple days ago, we were going to meet someone who was buying clothes from me, and Xander (8) said, "We don't have to rush, they're never on time anyways!"

LIFE LESSON TIME!!!

So I proceed to explain to him the importance of being a person of your word. How when you say, "I'll be there at 5," you get there at 5 (or sooner if possible). How if you say you'll be at a friend's party, you show up. How if you sign up to be in a play or on a sports team, you are there for everything involved in that commitment.

He asked me, "But why does it matter? The other people are never there when THEY say."

Well, son, the Bible says...GOD says,

"All you need to say is simply 'Yes' or 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one."
(Matthew 5:37 NIV)

Being a man of your word lets everyone know that if you say "YES," you can be counted on to follow through. If you say "NO," then that means you won't do it. Whatever the issue is, let your Yes be Yes and your No be NO!! Live a life that lets everyone around you know that your word is your bond, and that you mean what you say!

This has been on my mind lately. While I realize that "life happens," it gets frustrating when people commit to things then cancel at the last minute. I have been guilty of it too.... I understand how upset my cancelling must make them. I want to live a life of honor so that my friends know when I speak, it's truth. When I commit, I follow through. When I say "I won't" then I will not!

Father help me - every single day - be a woman of my word. Let my YES be YES and my NO be NO!
-Amen
