20 years???

This month, I did something that I didn't think I should have to do for a very long time.

In fact, it seemed as though it was WAAAAAY to soon.

But I did it.... I went to my 20 year high school reunion!!

Rewind 22 years....

In April of my sophomore year in high school, my family moved from the biggest city in America across the country to a town of only about 12,000 people. I moved to a town where everyone knew everyone; everyone had their cliques together since grade school. There was little chance of making lasting and meaningful friendships. Needless to say, I was less than thrilled!

I made a couple REALLY good friends, the best of which was a year behind me. But most everyone remained in the category of  "nice acquaintances."

Fast forward 10 years after graduation...

10 year reunion came and went. I had no desire to go as I really didn't have anyone from my graduating class that I still talked to.

7 years ago, I joined Facebook. Little did I know the difference it would make for me. Over the last several years, I've reconnected with many of those "nice acquaintances," and can call many of them friends today.
So, a year ago, people started discussing our 20 year reunion. This time around, I was excited!! Nervous...but excited!

I spent all day the day of with butterflies in my stomach dreading the event. At one point, I contemplated skipping it all together. I was worried that nobody would know me...After all, these people didn't spend their entire childhood with me as they had with each other. I was afraid of being the wallflower all night long with nobody to talk to.

Ok... stepping back from that night. If you know me, does this sound like me? AT ALL!!?? No...it doesn't. I'm not the scaredy-cat type person I'm describing. So what the heck was wrong with me?

Anyways, back to the big night...

I met up with two girls beforehand and we arrived together. It's less intimidating that way, ya know?!? And would you believe it,

PEOPLE KNEW ME!!!

Probably not everyone, and that's okay; however, more people knew me than I expected! One girl, who I honestly don't think EVER spoke a word to me in high school,  had an in depth conversation with me at the reunion!! I had my two girlfriends that I went with by my side most of the time, and they made it an amazing night !!

All in all, my 20th High School Reunion was definitely worth the trip! I'm so glad that I've been able to reconnect with some of my high school classmates these last few years!

And I'm still denying that it's been 20 years!!!
