Beanie Weanies Turned BBQ??

I found this recipe called "Hawaiian Hot Dog Surprise" .... we decided to try it out. Surely the kids would love it. Essentially it was super-sugary beanie weanies! I tweaked the recipe quite a bit, so I will just put what I did here:

2- 28oz cans Original Baked Beans
1-20oz can undrained Pineapples (diced)
3- 12oz pkgs Hot Dogs
1 C white sugar
2 C brown sugar

* Let cook on low heat in the slow cooker for 6+ hours.

We put it on when we went to church yesterday morning so after church it would be ready for lunch. FYI: when you buy canned pineapple, it's cheaper to buy sliced pineapple and then cut it up yourself, than it is to buy it already cut up for you!! ANYWAY, this meal was REALLY good... IF you drained the juices. Otherwise, it was overwhelmingly sweet. Only Xander liked it - the other kids had to choke it down. Tim and I liked it as long as we didn't get too much of the juices in the bowl. JUST the beans, pineapple and hot dogs were good!

FAIL!!!

SO... I had this great idea!

What if... since the juice is almost like a sweet barbeque sauce... What if I get all the beans, pineapple and hot dogs out of the crock pot, leave the juice in, and throw in some chicken?

SO, I DID!

After I put the chicken in the crockpot, I went to bed. Since I had worked all night Saturday, and would have to work all night again last night, it was time for sleep. So I put the chicken with "BBQ" on low heat to cook for the next 8 hours while I'd sleep.

When I woke up, the house smelled AMAZING! Before I did anything else, I checked the food. It tasted just as delicious as it smelled! I had a couple bites before getting ready for work- just as a saucy chicken. But then I had to try it as a pulled meat style BBQ... so I had it on a tortilla for a wrap! WOW, that was good too!

SCORE!!!!!

We have SO many left overs right now as a result of this ONE recipe we found for Hawaiian Hot Dog Surprise. I think I'll be sick of beans and BBQ when it's all said and done, but I had to share it with my blogger buddies since the end result was SO DELICIOUS!!! Even my hubby, my wonderful hubby who doesn't like BBQ (who doesn't like BBQ, weird, right??)...even TIM liked my chicken! My crockpot got a work out yesterday, but it was well worth it!
